Energy Development in Washington
The interest in development of environmentally-friendly sources of energy, including wind power and bio-fuels, has increased dramatically. However, as we seek cheaper and cleaner energy sources, care needs to be taken to avoid putting biodiversity at greater risk. In particular, the shrub-steppe ecosystems in eastern Washington have already endured significant loss and fragmentation. Making wise decisions regarding where future energy development occurs can both provide cleaner energy and help with the protection of our state’s biodiversity.
