Rare Plant Communities of Texas

The state of Texas harbors a wide diversity of rare plant communities, including 152 different upland community types and 58 different wetland community types. These 210 rare plant communities are defined and described in the Texas Rare Plant Community List. The goal of the Texas Rare Plant Community List is to raise awareness about rare and declining terrestrial communities of Texas.

The rare plant communities are ranked using a conservation status system established by NatureServe.  The ranks are available in the list, which includes both global (=range-wide) ranks and state ranks, based on their relative rarity.
