Description

Areas that support the rarest Threatened and Endangered Species, significant concentrations and clusters of rare species and wildlife habitats, the rarest plant and animal communities, the best remaining habitats for species of Greatest Conservation Need listed in Maryland’s State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP), and the larger landscape areas necessary to support migratory animals, population dispersal, and habitat shifts resulting from climate change.  Areas are prioritized according to the following Tiers:
Tier 1 – Critically Significant for Biodiversity Conservation
Tier 2 – Extremely Significant for Biodiversity Conservation
Tier 3 – Highly Significant for Biodiversity Conservation
Tier 4 – Moderately Significant for Biodiversity Conservation
Tier 5 – Significant for Biodiversity Conservation
