McCartney Creek Preserve

Project Description

The McCartney Creek Preserve is located at the eastern edge of the Waterville Plateau in Douglas County, Washington. The site contains one of the largest, contiguous areas of shrub-steppe habitat remaining in Washington. The preserve also contains riparian areas, basalt cliffs, talus slopes, fresh and alkali springs, and ice age flood deposits on the Coulee floor. The size and topographical diversity of this area provides habitat for a rich assemblage of shrub-steppe obligate wildlife and endemic plant species.
