Goals and Targets

Primary Motivations:

  • Conservation Mission
The City of Eugene Natural Areas and Urban Forestry program has as part of its mission to 1) advance and steward interconnected systems of natural areas, trees, trails, and clean waters and 2) protect and restore exological functions and native biological diversity.
  • Mitigation
This site is part of the City of Eugene's Wetland Mitigation Bank program.

Primary Goals:

  • Provide 165 acres of compensatory wetland mitigation credits to approved applicants within its servive area to offset impacts to wetland resources.
Progress: Groundwork complete. Seeding and planting underway.
  • Enhance site hydrology and historic surface water flow to support the establishment of wet prairie, vernal pool, and emergent communities.
    Progress: Groundwork complete.
  • Enhance vegetation to provide highly diverse wetland communities resistant to invasion and resilient to disturbance.
    Progress: Seeding and planting underway.
  • Establish a diverse prairie plant community to provide food, shelter, and breeding areas for native prairie invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds.
Progress: Groundwork complete including construction of experimental lark pads. Planting and seeding underway.

Consistent With Plans:

  • State Wildlife Action Plan
Wetlands are identified as a priority habitat in the Oregon Conservation Strategy.

Outcomes

Is the success of this project's actions being monitored? Yes

Monitoring Activities
We will set up photo points and a grid system of survey points for wetland vegetation and hydrologic monitoring.

Citation

The City of Eugene has written a mitigation bank instrument and drafted a long term management plan. Both will be approved by an interagency review team that reviews all wetland mitigation bank programs.
