In a 2008 report to Congress the Federal Highway Administration reported that Animal Vehicle Collisions (AVCs) nearly doubled in frequency from 1990 to 2004, from about 175,000 to around 300,000. State Farm estimates that for the period of July 1, 2011 to July 1, 2012 there were 1.23 million deer-vehicle collisions that resulted in more than $4 billion in damage.
