Colorado Wind Energy Development Potential

Overview

This data layer shows the average wind resource potential for the state of Colorado at 50 meters above ground level.

Data Layer Description

Source

National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Location

  1. Colorado
  2. This shapefile was generated from a raster dataset with a 200 m resolution.

Description

The data was screened to eliminate areas unlikely to be developed onshore due to land use or environmental issues. In some areas the wind resource on this layer is visually enhanced to better show the distribution on ridge crests and other features.

How you might make use of this data layer

This is layer shows areas where conditions may be suitable for development of wind energy resources.  Wind energy development in some areas may be considered threats to some biological resources.  These areas may also indicate places where unique management conditions exist, or where opportunities to develop new conservation partnerships may be found.
